Funeral Director/Embalmer
Douglas Wm. McGill is a 5th generation Funeral Director/Embalmer/owner and the great great grandson of Salm-McGill and Tangeman funeral home Founder, Frederick Salm. Doug, has spent his entire life in the funeral home.
At
the age of 13, Doug spent his summers in Sidney Ohio working with his grandfather
at the funeral home.
Doug is a 1982 Graduate of Vandalia Butler High School, Vandalia Ohio. In 1985, Doug graduated from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, (CCMS), Cincinnati Ohio, with a Bachelor's degree from Xavier University in Mortuary Science. Doug, and one other classmate, were the first to receive a Bachelor's degree in Mortuary Science in the nation.
Doug's grandfather, William, encouraged Doug to get a wide variety of experience from different funeral homes in small and large communities. While following his grandfather's advice, and instead of graduating early in his junior year, he worked at the Morton and Whetstone Funeral home, Vandalia Ohio, through the school's D.E.C.A. program.
His last year in mortuary school he took a position with the Charles A. Miller Funeral Home in Cincinnati Ohio. Doug also served an Internship with the Tufts-Shildmeyer Funeral Home in Loveland Ohio as part of his graduation requirements.
After
graduation from CCMS, Doug, realizing he preferred the small town funeral
home life, returned to Sidney Ohio to serve his apprenticeship with his grandfather,
the late William E. Salm. After passing the National and State Board
examinations he became a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in 1987.
Doug
resides in Sidney, Ohio and is a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Sidney
