Norma Stengel Obituary

Norma A. (Hecht) Stengel, 85, of Quincy, Ohio, was called home to the lord on Monday October 25, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born on April 9, 1936 in Sidney, Ohio to John and Ursul (Magateaux) Hecht, and both parents preceded her in death. On November 25th, 1971 Norma married James Stengel Sr. and he is deceased.

Norma is survived by her children, William (Rose) Payne Jr. of McCartysville, Ohio, Linda (Kent) Zimmerman of St. Paris, Ohio; Laura (Steve) Thomas of Sidney, Ohio; Maggie Marguis of Quincy, Ohio; and two deceased sons, James and Dale Payne; and stepchildren, Vickie Stengel of South Carolina; Sandra Hoover of Sidney, Ohio; James Stengel Jr. of Sidney, Ohio; and deceased step son Brent Stengel of Sidney, Ohio; ten grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren. Along with husband and parents, Norma was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Margaret Friesthler, Ralph, Paul, Vernon, Donald, and Barbara Hecht.  

Norma attended Holy Angels Catholic Schools. She was a lifelong member of the Ladies Auxiliary since 1972 and a homemaker. She was a very special person who had many, many friends. Norma enjoyed going camping and staying at home with her children, but most of all she loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was of the Catholic faith.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 1st, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Salm-McGill & Tangeman Funeral Home with Fr. Jarred Kohn. Interment will follow at Pearl Cemetery, Sidney, Ohio. Friends may call at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home in Sidney on Sunday, October 31st, 2021 from 1-4 PM. The VFW Ladies Auxiliary will have a prayer service at 3:45 PM and again Monday from 10am until time of service at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left for the Payne/Stengel family at www.salm-mcgillandtangemanfh.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rosewood Rescue Squad. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Rosewood Rescue and Mercy Memorial Hospital for all there help and care with their mom Norma. Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home is honored to be taking care of the Payne/Stengel family.
