Jacqueline E. (McVay) Thoma

Jacqueline E. (McVay) Thoma, 91, formerly of Sidney, Ohio passed away on June 23, 2023, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Jackie was born on November 5, 1931 in Sidney, Ohio, the daughter of Wilbur E. and Marjorie (Sturm) McVay, who preceded her in death. On March 31, 1951, she married Richard F. Thoma, who preceded her in death on December 25, 2020.

Jackie was a member of Sidney High School Class of 1949, she was retired from Northern VA Doctors Hospital, and a Past-President of the American Legion Auxiliary of Post 217 in Sidney. She also was a Past-President of the Rainbow Gardeners, and beautified the community in many places along with her fellow members. You can still see much of their work continuing today in Sidney. 

Surviving Jackie are her and Richard’s four children: Jennifer (David) Ball of Manassas Park, VA., Richard A. (Gaye) Thoma of Pell City, AL., Steven M. (Karen) Thoma of Huntsville, Al., and David A. (Lisa) Thoma of Blacksburg, VA., and sister, Marcia J. (Richard- deceased) Grigg of Sidney, OH., and 9 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Jackie is preceded in death by two brothers Frank R. McVay, and Jerry J. McVay, and both parents Wilbur E. and Marjorie (Sturm) McVay. 

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at 10:30 AM at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Sidney, Ohio. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM at Salm-McGill & Tangeman Funeral Home in Sidney.
