Hugh Sherman Obituary

Hugh U. Sherman, 84, 2599 W. Russell Rd., Sidney, Ohio died at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima, Ohio on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 2:28 PM. He was born February 25, 1925 to Louis and Frances (Fleckenstein) Sherman in Fort Loramie, Ohio and they are deceased. He married Mary Jane Moorman on November 8, 1952 and she survives along with with seven children, Louis R. (Jenny K.) Sherman of Botkins, Ohio; Nancy M. (Jerry) Ranly of Minster, Ohio; Jill E. Sherman, Piqua, Ohio; Toinette L. (Don) Alexander of Sidney, Ohio; Jannis A. (Bill) Sherman of Minster, Ohio; Amy K. (David) Muhlenkamp of Troy, Ohio and Forrest H. (Debonair L.) Sherman of Sidney, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Mary Tebbe of Anna, Ohio and Ruth Strayer of Sidney, Ohio. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Bertha Zink, Rita Couchot, and Louise Sherman; and a great-grandson, Tyree Sauers. Mr. Sherman retired from Stolle Corp. as a polisher after 30 years of service. He greatly enjoyed fishing, playing cards and woodworking. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He served during World War II in the 27th Infantry Regiment. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney, Ohio. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 217 in Sidney, and a member of the Eagles Lodge in Greenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 10:30 AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Fort Loramie with Rev. Dan Schmitmeyer officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Fort Loramie, Ohio. Friends may call from 2-8 PM on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be to the Honor Flight Memorial by mailing to: Honor Flight Memorial; Attention: Tom O'Neal, 300 E. Auburn Ave., Springfield, Ohio 45505.
