Howard Gariety, 76, of Anna, passed away on Saturday May 22, 2021 at his residence in, Anna, Ohio at 1:03 PM. He was born on May 12, 1945 in Sidney, Ohio, the son Francis and Gladys (Scherer) Gariety and they are deceased. On April 3, 1965 he married Suzan (Hughes-Shepherd) Gariety and she survives. Howard is survived by one son, Jamie Gariety, and one daughter, Jenny (Matt) Bertsch, both of Sidney; two grandchildren, Anastasia Beil and Phil Bertsch. Howard is also survived by three siblings, Lawrence (Louise) Gariety of Lake Park, Georgia, Patricia (Lawrence) Geise of Celina, Ohio, and Edward (Karen) Gariety of Sidney, Ohio. Howard is also survived by nephews and nieces Tony (Petra) Gariety, Michelle (Doug) Leist, Marc (Linda) Geise, Matt (Brenna Farrell) Geise, Brian (Kristen) Geise, Lindsay (Zach) Geuy, and Nicholas Gariety (Jenna Puckett and Riley). Grandnephews and nieces include Sydney Rogers, Andrew, Brooklyn, Mallory, Nora, and Natalie Leist, Marco and Mia Geise, Beckett and Clara Geise, Brynn and Bradley Geise, and Mack, Zane, and Crew Geuy. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson Sebastian Bertsch. Howard’s son, Jamie, was a godsend throughout his dad’s illness.
Howard was a 1963 graduate from Holy Angels High School, Sidney. Howard was a long-time farmer for over 56 years. Farming was Howard’s passion. He enjoyed time with family and friends and cherished visits with Mack, Zane, and Crew. He enjoyed time up at Indian Lake and he was an avid fisherman. In recent years, he and Suzan enjoyed being snowbirds in Lake Wales, Florida. They enjoyed playing cards and dominoes. Howard enjoyed deer hunting with his brothers Larry and Ed and nephews Tony and Nick, along with other family friends. He also enjoyed duck hunting and mushroom hunting. He was a long-time fan of the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State football and basketball. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in McCartyville.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home with Fr. John Tonkin. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Sidney, in his mausoleum. Friends may call at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home in Sidney on Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 3-7 PM and again on Friday May 28, 2021 one hour prior to services.
