David Egan Obituary

David Gerard Egan, 52 years old, gained his angel wings on July 25, 2021, at 8:31 p.m.  Dave was born on June 1, 1969, in Oil City, Pennsylvania, to the late Geraldine (Zacherl) & Daniel Egan.  Raised in Sidney, Ohio, he excelled in sports (particularly baseball & football) at Lehman Catholic High School and continued playing football while and after attending the University of Cincinnati.

On October 18, 2002 he married Jeniphor Lynn Spodnick.  She survives along with two sons, Bransen Rylee and Brennen Daniel, who were the pride and joy of his life.  He leaves behind a very special sister, Beth (Jerry) Barhorst, who was always there for him, a goddaughter, Maria Barhorst, and a special Aunt, Sister Mary Therese Egan and Uncle, Father Dick Egan.  Also left to cherish his memory is a brother, Mike (Cathy) Egan, sisters, Kathy (Dave) Pietras, and Jeanne Armacost, as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Also known as “Steeg”, “Coach Egan” and “Cigar Dave”, he lived life to the fullest.  His passions were sports and racing.  As a long-time football and lacrosse coach for St. Matt’s, he was a mentor and role model to many.  He always looked forward to attending the races with friends, who became more like family.  The one thing Dave enjoyed most was being a father to Bransen and Brennen.  Whether it be attending their school functions and sporting events, taking them on trips or just playing around the house, he always made it fun.  He was incredibly proud of them, and their bond will carry on even from Heaven.

Dave left this life just like he lived it, in a positive manner, as an organ donor – a true hero!  A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church, 19794 Johnson Rd, South Bend, IN 46614 on Thursday, August 5, 2021.

Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at Palmer Funeral Home – Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN, and again at St. Jude Catholic Church beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be taking place in Sidney, Ohio on Friday, August 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Graceland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in David’s honor may be made to the family to assist in Brennen’s education.  Online condolences may be left for the Egan family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com or www.salm-mcgillandtangemanfh.com.
