Ronald Ivan Miller

Ronald Ivan Miller, 89, of Sidney, Ohio, passed away December 9, 2025, at his residence. He was born January 14, 1936, in Sidney, Ohio, to the late Thomas and Martha Miller.

A lifelong resident of Sidney, he graduated from Sidney High School in 1954 and went on to attend Toledo Barber College. After completing his training, he began a remarkable 65-year career as a barber. He spent his first two years cutting hair in Vandalia, Ohio, before returning home to Sidney, where he welcomed generations of customers at Ron’s Barber Shop for the next 63 years. He retired in 2019, leaving behind not only a career but a community of friends who cherished his steady presence and easy conversation.

He married the love of his life, Carolyn Maier, in 1959 in Sidney. Together they raised two children: Janice (Jim) Fortkamp of Sidney and John (Deb) Miller of Hilliard. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren—Kevin (Adrienne) Fortkamp of Sidney, David (Hilary) Fortkamp of Oakwood, Annie (Dan) Gillaugh of Troy, Alex (Ellie) Miller of Troy, and Matthew (Sara) Miller of Pataskala—and a delighted great-grandfather to twelve great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Janet Born, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Martha Miller; his parents-in-law, John and Beatrice Maier; his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Betty Miller; his sisters- and brothers-in-law Joan and Ken Copella, Marilyn “Sis” and Elton Kemper; and brother-in-law Robert Born.

Outside of his work, he enjoyed quiet moments with jigsaw puzzles, fishing trips, and watching old TV westerns. He also found joy and purpose in giving back to his community, spending time volunteering at the local soup kitchen. He will be remembered for his steady hands, kind heart, gentle humor, and the countless lives he touched from behind the barber’s chair.

A visitation will be held on Friday - December 12, 2025, from 9AM - 10AM, at Salm - McGill & Tangeman Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. at Holy Angels Catholic Church - Sidney. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Angels Soup Kitchen. Salm - McGill & Tangeman Funeral Home is honored to serve the Miller family.
