John W. Apple, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026, at Ohio Living Dorothy Love in Shelby County, Ohio. He was born on May 2, 1939, in Farmersville, Ohio, to the late Ralph J. Apple, and Merna I. Weimer. 

John’s career at Armco Steel was characterized by his hardworking spirit and steadfast reliability. He took great pride in his work, contributing to the company’s operations with skill and dedication for many years. Beyond his professional life, John’s passions extended deeply into volunteerism and collecting, reflecting his multifaceted interests and generous spirit.

His engagement with the Volunteer Fire Department in Germantown, Ohio, demonstrated his courageous dedication to the safety and well-being of his community. As a Mason, he was actively involved in both the Farmersville and Sidney Lodges, embodying the principles of brotherhood and charity that the organization cherishes. Additionally, his enthusiasm for history and collectibles was highlighted by his participation in the Masonic Federation of Historical Bottle Collectors and the Shelby County Coin Club, pursuits through which he connected with like-minded individuals and preserved valuable cultural artifacts.

John was preceded in death by his father, Ralph J. Apple; mother, Merna Weimer; beloved wife, Donnetta Lee Hawthorne; daughter, Annette Apple; as well as three sisters and one brother. Despite these losses, his legacy endures through the loving family he leaves behind.

He is survived by his son John D. Apple and his wife Elizabeth, daughter Darla Sue Reason and her husband Kurt, and son Benjamin Apple and his wife Mavis. His family circle further extends to twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of great pride and affection for John. He also leaves behind beloved step-children Doug Mrofka, Peter Mrofka, and Mary Mrofka, who were close companions throughout his life.

John W. Apple’s life was a testament to the values of hard work, service, and family devotion. His contributions as a maintenance professional, volunteer fireman, Mason, and collector highlight a lifetime of dedication to both his community and his passions. He will be remembered with respect and admiration by all who knew him, and his absence leaves a profound gap in the hearts of his family and friends.

Private graveside services will be held at Twin Valley Cemetery - Gratis, Ohio. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Cremation services have been entrusted to Salm - McGill & Tangeman Funeral Home - Sidney.
