Walker Asbury Obituary

Walker Bowen Asbury, 93, Fair Haven Shelby County Home, 2901 Fair Road, Sidney, Ohio, formerly of 20 S. Meadow Lane, Sidney, Ohio died at the nursing home on Monday, June 12, 206 at 11:30 PM. He was born July 23, 1912 in Taswell, Virginia the son of James and Ranzie (Umbarger) Asbury. He was married July 6, 1937 to Christine Barringer, his loving wife of 55 years, and she died February 5, 1993. Surviving are two children, Meredith Blake and her husband John of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and Thomas B. Asbury and his wife Sharon of Sidney; five grandchildren, Betsy Blake, Jennifer Kramer, Amy Bamford, Cassandra Egbert and Brittany Egbert and seven great-grandchildren, Alex Blake, Abby Blake, Kimmie Kramer, Katie Kramer, Max Bamford, Jack Bamford, and Ella Bamford. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Charles and Roy Asbury and four sisters, Nanny, Ellen, Bessie and Mary and also preceded in death by his loving companion, Wilma Valentine. Mr. Asbury started his working career farming and joined Monarch Machine and Tool Company in Sidney in 1935, retiring in 1982 after 47 years of service. An avid bowler, he participated in the major leagues until age 80. He was a longtime member of Sidney First United Methodist Church, was a 32nd Degree Mason and was very active at the Sidney-Shelby County YMCA and the Sidney-Shelby County Senior Citizens. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 11:30 AM at the Chapel of Memories at the Sidney First United Methodist Church with Rev. Barbara Staley. Friends may pay their respects to the family from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the Gathering Place at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Wilson Hospice, 915 W. Michigan St., Sidney, Ohio 45365; Sidney-Shelby County YMCA, 300 E. Parkwood St., Sidney, Ohio 45365 or the Sidney-Shelby County Senior Citizens, 304 S. West Ave., Sidney, Ohio 45365. Envelopes will also be available at the church. Private graveside services will be held at Cedar Point Cemetery, Pasco, Ohio later in the day. The family would like to thank the staffs of Wilson Memorial Hospital, Wilson Hospice and Fair Haven Shelby County Home and a special thanks to Paul Daniels for the care given.
