Tana Lowien Obituary

Tana Jean Lowien, 64, 3707 Miller Road, Russia, Ohio died at the Hospice of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio on Thursday, April 1, 2010 in the evening. She fought a six week battle with cancer. She was born October 23, 1945 in Port Clinton, Ohio the daughter of Edward and Audrey (Jermey) Sztuk. The mother survives in Port Clinton, Ohio along with husband, Louis W. 'Skip' Lowien of Russia, Ohio; one son, Patrick Lowien and his wife Dana (Helmick) of Leonardtown, Maryland; one sister, Mary Lou Suhrbier and husband Raymond of Port Clinton, Ohio and two brothers, Ed Sztuk of Port Clinton, Ohio and Jim Sztuk and wife Leanne of West Palm Beach, Florida and three grandchildren, Anna Elizabeth, Emily Grace and Elise Marie Lowien. She was married on September 17, 1966 and was a 1966 graduate of the Mercy School of Nursing in Toledo, Ohio. Tana's primary goals in life were always to be a good wife, mother, grandmother, and Catholic. Anyone who knew her well could attest to this commitment she lived out. Her priorities were always to care for her family and friends with love. She loved her faith as well and shared it with many. She was anxious to be a part of the community of St. John, a religious order founded in France. In the last decade she has sewn habits for the brothers (monks) at their Priory in Princeville, Illinois near Peoria. She and her husband traveled to France in 2008 to visit many religious sites in mostly rural France. Her granddaughters always enjoyed visits with Tana because she always had time to play boardgames, do puzzles, or many 'pretend' games as doctors, nurses, or teachers. She loved to participate in them all. Tana has loved and shared with many people over the years in Sidney, Port Clinton, Indiana and even Bankok, Thailand and was a promising 'light' to them all. She will truly be missed by them all. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Angels Catholic Church on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Dan Schmitmeyer. Burial will be on Friday, April 9, 2010 at 11:30 AM at Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton, Ohio. Friends may call at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home in Sidney on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 from 4-8 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Angels Endowment Fund, 324 S.
