Ruth C. (Sherman) Strayer

Ruth C. Strayer, 96, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017 in Sidney, Ohio.   She was born in Fort Loramie, Ohio on August 3, 1921 to Louis and Frances (Fleckenstein) Sherman and they are deceased.   On August 28, 1946 she married Frank Strayer and he is deceased.   Ruth retired from the Sidney City Schools as a cook.  She was a parishioner of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney.  Her great loves in life were her family, quilting, and playing cards, especially euchre.   Ruth and Frank had five children, Betty Strayer, Susan (Patrick) Kinsella, Katherine Patton and a son John (Sharon) Strayer.   Another son, Charles Strayer is deceased.   She also was preceded in death by sisters, Bertha Zink, Rita Couchot, Mary Tebbe and infant sister, Louise Sherman and a brother, Hugh Sherman.  She has nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren that survive and has a surviving sister-in-law, Mary Jane Sherman of Sidney and a daughter-in-law, Lois Strayer of Covington, Ohio.   Friends may call at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 from 4-7 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burail will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Father Peter Langenkamp officiating.   Burial will follow at Shelby Memory Gardens, Sidney, Ohio.   Memorial contributions may be made to Wilson Hospice or Holy Angels Catholic School in Ruth's memory.   Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.   Her family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers at Wilson Health for their wonderful care of their mother.   Condolences may be expressed to the Strayer family on Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home's web site at:   www.salm-mcgillandtangemanfh.com
