Norman Elsass Obituary

Norman Wilson Elsass, 88, 408 E. State St., Botkins, Ohio died at Leesburg Regional Medical Center, Leesburg, Florida on Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 1:08 PM. He also lived in Lady Lake, Florida in the winter. He was born September 5, 1916 in Anna, Ohio the son of F. G. and Ora (Staley) Elsass. He married Inez Koenig in 1940 and she died in 1965 and he married Alice Taylor on November 26, 1966 and she survives along with six children, Michael Elsass of Kettlersville, Ohio; Bruce Burget and wife Nicole of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; Patrick Elsass and wife Shirley of Botkins, Ohio; Diana Doseck of Huber Heights, Ohio; Robert Burget of San Leandro, California; Renee Theodore and husband Todd of Powell, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, Erik Elsass and wife Amy, Mark Elsass, Brent Elsass, Shawn Burget, Monique Burget, Shane Burget, Travis Burget, Allison Burget, Keith Elsass, Greg Elsass and wife Katie, Jill Marlow, Monica Sutter, Emily Coyle and husband Bob, Nick Theodore, Madison Theodore; 3 great-grandchildren, Carly Sutter, Cassy Sutter and Michael Coyle. One brother survives, Eugene Elsass and wife Nila of Sidney, Ohio and one sister survives, Mary Jo Raberding and husband Robert of Botkins, Ohio; Two brothers are deceased, Carl Frederick and Richard Elsass. He attended Ohio State University and was a member of the Varsity O Club for baseball. He was a United States Army veteran in World War II and was a 1st sergeant. He was a member of the Botkins Community Club, Botkins volunteer Fire Dept., American Legion of Anna; Board of Directors at Shelby Oaks Golf Course for many years; fraternity at Ohio State - Omega Tau Epsilon when in college; managed and played on the baseball team for the Botkins Redlegs. He loved to bowl and golf and was a huge OSU Buckeye fan. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Botkins, Ohio. He was the postmaster at Botkins Post Office for 30 years, then was a realtor with Engelhaupt Realty, then owned Elsass and Son Insurance Agency in Botkins, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Botkins, Ohio with Rev. Patrick Slonecker. Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Botkins, Ohio with full military honors. Friends may call at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 22, 2005 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
