Mary Sayre Obituary

Mary Louise Sayre, 94, Dorothy Love Retirement Community, 3003 W. Cisco Rd., Sidney, Ohio died at Dorothy Love on Friday, December 17, 2004 at 8:10 PM. She was born August 25, 1910 on the family farm near Swanders in Franklin Township, the daughter of James Edward and Mary Bess (Wyatt) Swander. Mrs. Sayre lived on the farm until 1993, when she and her late husband, Russell Sayre, moved to Dorothy Love. They were married January 6, 1934. Her survivors include Mrs. Phillip (Ann Elizabeth) Fazzini of Hamilton, Ohio; Mrs. Thomas (Mary Jane) Stickley of Alexandria, Virginia; and James (Karen) Sayre, who lives on the Swanders area farm. Her sister-in-law, Florence Sayre Shine, is a resident of Dorothy Love. Mrs. Sayre was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Ann Swander and brother, Thomas Swander. She has seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sayre was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sidney and a former member of St. Jacob Lutheran Church in Anna and the German Reform Church in Swanders. A retired high school teacher of English, Latin, and European history, she taught at Sidney High School and Perry Township School in Pemberton, but spent most of her teaching career at Wapakoneta High School in Auglaize County. A graduate of Sidney High School, she attended Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, then completed an undergraduate degree from Flora Stone Mather College of Western Reserve University in Cleveland and a graduate degree from Ohio State University. She was a member of the Shelby County Historical Society. The family invites friends to a memorial service at Amos Chapel, Dorothy Love Retirement Communtiy, on Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at 10:00 AM in the morning . Pastor Fred Lacuesta, Dorothy Love Chaplain, will conduct the service. Funeral arrangements, including interment at Pearl Cemetery near Swanders, Ohio were handled by Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the "Life Care Fund" at Dorothy Love Retirement Community.
