Leona Bunker Obituary

Leona K. Bunker, 88, of Sidney, departed this life to claim her reward in heaven at 1:15 AM on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at her home. She was born October 20, 1923 on the Regula Family Farm near Sante Fe, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Della (Zweibel) Regula. On June 18, 1944, Leona married Russell C. Bunker who died October 30, 2005. Leona was also preceded in death by her son, David Russell Bunker who died September 16, 1960. Leona is survived by four children, Trish and Jim Stegall of Ft. Worth, Texas, John and Mary Bunker of Milford, New Jersey, Jim and Cuilain Leung of Campbell, California, and Mike and Angie Bunker of Sidney, Ohio and special daughter, Terri Bunker of Denver, Colorado. Leona is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia and Norman Klopfenstein of Jackson Center; and a sister-in-law, Patricia and Jerry McVay of Columbus, Ohio. Leona is also survived by many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly along with her longtime friend, Emma Snavely. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Knief and Lucille Klopfenstein and one brother, Leroy Regula. Leona met Russell when they both worked at the Stolle Corporation in 1943. After they married and as their children entered school, Leona worked at the Sidney Daily News while they were still located downtown and later went on to work at Lynn's Stamp News/Coin World. Leona's life centered around her involvement with a variety of activities at the Sidney First United Methodist Church. Her ministry included, rocking babies in the nursery, member of the Blanche Wilhide Circle, many years of cooking at the Tar Hollow Youth Camp, United Methodist Women and other various activities and committees. Leona was a past president of the FISH organization and loved to cook and volunteer at the Alpha Center on Tuesday evenings. Leona enjoyed making cookies for her grandchildren, playing cards with her sisters every Wednesday, time spent with family and of course mowing her grass. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Sidney First United Methodist Church in Sidney. Burial will be at a later date at Graceland Cemetery, Sidney. Friends may call at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home in Sidney on Saturday, July 7, 2012 from 6-8 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alpha Center, 330 E. Court St., Sidney, Ohio 45365. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
