Leon J. Francis, 77, 313 Vandemark Rd., Sidney, Ohio died on Sunday, September 26, 2004 at 7:31 AM at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Sidney. He was born June 11, 1927 in Shelby County, Ohio the son of Edward and Alma (Monnin) Francis and they are deceased. He married on May 24, 1952 to Beverly J. Hanan and she died July 31, 2003. Surviving are seven children, Mrs. Mel (Ellen) Cabeen of Laura, Ohio; Kent Francis of Harriman, Tennessee; Dan Francis and wife Brenda of Sidney; David Francis of Columbus, Ohio; Jim Francis and wife Shannon of Sidney; Mark Francis of Sidney and Mrs. Tom (Sondra) Schneider of Piqua, Ohio; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Vernon Francis and wife Dorothy of Middletown, Ohio; Edward Francis and wife Lori of Ludlow Falls, Ohio; Delores Frankenberg and husband Leroy of Sidney; Jane Ann Hill and husband Bill of Middletown, Ohio; One sister, Rosetta Francis is deceased. He was in the Merchant Marines and the United States Army in the Korean War. He was a member of the Shelby County Regional Planning Commission, a monumental building trustee, a lifetime member of the Sidney American Legion in which is was twice past commander, member of VFW, Amvets, Elks and Moose. and a lifetime member of the Shelby County Deer Hunter's Association. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. He was retired in 1987 from Pioneer Rural Electric in Piqua, Ohio as the operations manager. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at 10:30 AM at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Rev. James Reutter. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Sidney, Ohio with full military honors. Friends may call at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 28, 2004 from 5-8 PM. An American Legion prayer service will be held at 7:45 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, P.O. Box 182039, Dept. 013, Columbus, Ohio 43218-2039. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
