John Young Jr. Obituary

John Taylor Young Jr., 80, Dorothy Love Retirement Community, Sidney, Ohio died at Dorothy Love on Friday, April 9, 2004 at 1:50 AM. He was born March 30, 1924 in Elsberry, Missouri (Lincoln County) the son of John Taylor Young Sr. and Neva Mercedes Sharp Young. He grew up on farms in Missouri and attended one room schools through the 8th grade. He attended Bowling Gree, Missouri high school graduating in 1942 as salutatorian of his class. He was inducted into the Army Air Force in March 1943, became a B-25 pilot and saw duty in the Pacific Theatre in World War II. Honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Was recalled during the Korean War in 1951 and was discharged in 1953 with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. John remained in touch with many of his crew members from World War II and enjoyed reminiscing with them. Entered the University of Missouri, Columbia, graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in machanical engineering and was a member of three Honoray Scholastic Fraternities, PI Mu Epsilon, Pi Tau Sigma, and Tau Beta Pi. He joined Copeland Refrigeration in 1957 and retired from Copeland in 1992 as a Regional Manager based in Atlanta, Georgia. He was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman and bridge player. He is survived by sons, John Taylor Young III and wife Dawn of Alexandria, Virginia; Barry Young and wife Terri of Scottsdale, Arizona; daughters, Becky Young of New Mexico; and Sally Wood and husband Dave of Sidney, Ohio; sisters, Marie Steele of Middletown, Missouri and Irene Thee and husband Walter of Murrysville, Pennsylvania; and six grandchildren. A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2004 from 5-7 PM at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home and funeral services will be at 7:00 PM with Rev. Phil Chilcote. The American Legion will have a prayer service at the funeral home at 6:45 PM. Burial will be at Auburn Cemetery, Silex, Missouri on Saturday, April 17, 2004. Memorial contributions may be sent to Wilson Hospice, 915 W. Michigan St., Sidney, Ohio 45365 or the Dorothy Love Life Care Fund, 3003 W. Cisco Rd., Sidney, Ohio 45365. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
