Frances Young Obituary

Frances "Hookie" Young, 82, 195 Mercury Ct., Sidney, Ohio died at Dorothy Love Retirement Community, Sidney, Ohio on Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at 7:45 AM. She was born October 11, 1921 in Strong City, Kansas the daughter of Joseph Leroy and Rebecca Ruth (Reynolds) Hook and they are deceased. She moved to Sidney in 1972 from St. Louis, Missouri. Surviving are four children, John Taylor Young III and his wife Dawn of Alexandria, Virginia; Barry Young and his wife Terri of Scottsdale, Arizona; Rebecca Young of Colorado; and Sally Young Wood and husband Dave of Sidney; six grandchildren, Shaun Brulport, Josh Wood, John Taylor Young IV, Courtney Young, Kyle Young and Katie Young; One infant sister and one other sister, Joan Cochran is deceased. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Truman State University, formerly, North East Missouri State Teacher's College in Kirksville, Missouri and her Masters Degree in education from the University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri. She was a member of Sidney First Christian Church for 32 years and held numerous positions in the church and on the board and was a deaconness at the church and also a volunteer at the Shelby County Cancer Society. She was a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority. She retired as an educator from the Sidney City Schools in 1989. She loved to play bridge, loved reading, cryptoquotes, crossword puzzles, shopping with friends, theatre, plays, senior center, piano and travel. Friends may call at the Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home on Saturday, September 18, 2004 from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2004 at 3:00 PM at Sidney First Christian Church, 212 N. Main Ave., Sidney, Ohio with Rev. Janet Mers. Burial will be at a later date at Grand Prairie Cemetery, Cairo, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 212 N. Main Ave., Sidney, Ohio 45365 for the Children's Ministry. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home and at the church.
