Adele Ann Fernandez, 88, Dorothy Love Retirement Community, Sidney, Ohio died on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 5:00 AM. She was born January 22, 1922 in Minster, Ohio the daughter of Louis I. and Della (Dickman) Hoying and they preceded her in death. She was married on May 28, 1949 to George P. Fernandez and he survives in Sidney. Also surviving are six children, G. Paul and wife Myrna L. of Midland, Michigan; John R. of Huntingtown, Maryland; William J. and wife Denise of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Thomas E. and wife Conda of Sidney; Catherine Vernon and husband David of Cincinnati and Elizabeth Bailey and husband Richard of Fort Loramie; eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; three brothers, Donald Hoying and wife Edna of Celina, Ohio; Charles Hoying and wife Marcille of Minster and Robert Hoying and wife Janet of Minster; sister-in-law, Rita Hoying of Minster; sister-in-law, Letitia Jones of London, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews. One sister, Marie A. Hoying and two brothers, Louis A. Hoying and James Hoying are deceased. She played the trumpet and violin in high school at Minster High School where she was a 1939 graduate; a 1940 graduate of Comptometer School in Dayton, Ohio and a 1949 graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. In college she belonged to the Women's Glee Club and the Catholic Women's sorority. She worked at NCR in Dayton and was a co-op student during the war at Andrew Jergens in Cincinnati. She was a teacher in the Sidney City Schools for many years; loved helping children and was an accomplished artist. She sang in the Sweet Adelines; loved music and working with her hands especially quilting and knitting for her grandchildren. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Red Cross, Sacred Altar Society at Holy Angels Catholic Church where she was a member; American Association University Women member and Wilson Memorial Hospital gift shop volunteer; helped with the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and was a Cub Scout Den Mother and also on the Appleseed Ridge Girl Scout Council. She taught art therapy with the mental health association in Shelby County and was a physical therapy coach with elementary children. At Dorothy Love she was very active with the Dorothy Love Crafters; assisted in the library and was an active volunteer in various capacities throughout the retirement community. Friends may call at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home in Sidney on Thursday, December 2, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and 9-10 AM on Friday, December 3, 2010. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Rev. Jason Bedel and Rev. David Hoying con-celebrating. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at St. Augustine Cemetery in Minster.
